At just age 17, Brandon Courtney is a humble yet motivated young athlete with ambitious goals and a hard-working attitude.  When Brandon was just 5 years old, his Dad asked him a simple question: if he wanted to try wrestling.  Brandon was excited just to give it a try and do his best, not knowing where it could lead.  Today, 12 years later, he is training as part of an elite group with dreams of one day making it to the Olympics.

Brandon is from Goodyear, Arizona and is currently training with Fight Ready of Scottsdale.  With the help and support of his dad and coaches, Brandon is preparing for the upcoming wrestling season in hopes of adding to his already-impressive list of accomplishments in the sport.  Brandon has won RMN’s Terminator event twice and also placed 3rd at Iowa Nationals.  He is also a two-time state champion of Arizona, winner of the Fargo National Tournament, and even placed 3rd at the 2015 Junior World Trials.  His current short-term goal is to make the Junior World Team this year as another step towards the Olympics.

While Brandon is not aiming to defeat any athletes in particular at the upcoming tournaments, he is still eager to attend and motivated to compete.  Aside from his dad, his biggest supporters are his coaches, Angel and Henry.  In particular, Brandon looks to his coach Henry Cejudo as a role model, as Henry won the Olympic gold medal for wrestling in 2008, when he was just 21 years old.  Brandon strives to follow in Henry’s footsteps and achieve his Olympic dreams.

Even with his ambitious Olympic goals, Brandon still enjoys competing in smaller-scale events as well.  When asked what it means for him to compete in RMN events, Brandon replied that each tournament is a very “cool experience” that is different from anything else he’s done before.  He is very much looking forward to competing in more RMN events in the near future, and will no doubt be a wrestler to watch!
