IDAWAY Rules and Regulations

1. Individual and Club Registration

a. Clubs must renew registration every year

b. Clubs must renew individual memberships by January 15th of every year or $5 late fee will be applied per membership

c All wrestlers must be IDAWAY members to compete in any IDAWAY district or state tournaments

2. Tournament Registration

a. Clubs must pre-register all wrestlers that plan to wrestle in IDAWAY tournaments

b. Clubs pre-register by using the IDAWAY on-line pre-registration process

c. Clubs pay a $5 fee for each wrestler that it pre-registers that does not compete

d. Non-affiliated members must also pre-register before 10:00 pm on the Thursday prior to the tournament

3. Weigh-in Regulations

a. All weigh-ins of season tournaments are satellite weigh-ins and must be done at a registered club by Thursday night

b. District and State Tournaments…

c. All wrestlers must wear a singlet or competitive shorts and a t-shirt when being weighed in

d. All weigh-ins will use a “one step” process

e. Only pre-registered wrestlers will be able to weigh in. Weigh-in workers will have a list.

f. Skin check and nail check will take place at weigh-ins

4. Age Groups

a. A wrestler’s age on December 31 will determine their age group. A birth certificate is the only accepted form of validation.

b. During all IDAWAY tournaments, wrestlers compete in the following age groups:

i. (5&6) Born in 2014 or 2015

ii. (7&8) Born in 2012 or 2013

iii. (9&10) Born in 2010 or 2011

iv. (11&12) Born in 2008 or 2009

v. (13&15) Born in 2005 or 2007

 

5. Weight Classes

 

1. 5&6 = 37, 40, 43, 45, 47, 49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 70, HWT

2. 7&8 = 43, 46, 49, 52, 54, 56, 58, 61, 64, 67, 72, 77, 85, HWT

3. 9&10 = 47, 51, 55, 59, 62, 65, 68, 71, 76, 81, 86, 90, 95, 100, 110, 122,  HWT

4. 11&12 = 61, 66, 72, 76, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 112, 119, 126, 135, 147, 165, HWT

5. 13&15 = 77, 82, 86, 102, 107, 112, 118, 124, 135, 140, 147, 157, 167, 177, 187, 212,  HWT

6. 15&16 = 88, 98, 106, 115, 122, 128, 133, 138, 143, 148, 155, 163, 174, 192, 218, 288

6. Tournament Start Time

a. 5&6, 7&8 – Start at 9:00 am

b. 9&10, 11&12 – Start at 11:00 am

c. 13&14, 15&16, 17&18 start at 1:00 pm

d. Match lengths are as follows:

i. 5&6, 7&8 = 3 periods at 60 seconds each with no break-disc flip

ii. 9&10, 11&12 = 3 periods at 90 seconds each with no break-disc flip

iii. 13&14, 15&16, 17&18 = 3 periods at 2 minutes each with no break-disc flip

7. Tournaments

a. Developmental

i. Round robin style bracketing

ii. Purpose is to get as many matches as possible

iii. All 5&6 and 7&8 year old tournaments are developmental

b. Competitive

i. Double elimination bracketing

c. District

i. State qualifying tournament

d. State

e. Each region should alternate between developmental and competitive tournaments with each region counter scheduling from each other.

f. All IDAWAY tournaments will use the mat-side pairing method to stage matches.Wrestlers will compete on the same mat for the duration of the tournament. Posted wall charts will list the match number of each chart.

g. Only first and second year wrestlers are allowed to compete in IDAWAY novice tournaments.

h. Experience in other leagues does count towards this restriction.

i. Wrestlers are required to wear headgear and a singlet or t-shirt and shorts.

j. Two coaches are allowed per wrestler. Any person operating video equipment will be considered one coach. Coaching from the corner is permitted.

k. If less than three wrestlers are in a weight class, the head pairing official has the discretion to combine weight classes (in the same age group).

l. All wrestlers, coaches, and fans are required to stay in the stands unless competing or warming up.

m. Tournaments continued

n. Entry fees for most season tournaments shall not exceed $12 per wrestler, excluding all Tour of Idaho tournaments.

o. Clubs will be called on to pay entry fees for each of their wrestlers during developmental tournaments unless noted otherwise by Regional Leadership. Clubs are also responsible for paying a $5 fee for each wrestler that pre-registered but did not compete.

p. Wrestlers are allowed a minimum of 20 minutes rest between matches unless waived by Region Director or Head Referee.

q. The NFHS rule concerning maximum matches per day for a competitor is not in effect.

8.    Hosting a tournament

a.    The regional director determines who can host a season tournament.

b.    Tournaments should be spread out geographically.

c.    An application must be sent to the region director.

d.    Tournaments should rotate each year if more clubs desire to host than dates exist.

e.    The state determines who can host a district or state tournament.

f.    The host club requirements

i.    4 mats

ii.    Seat 500 people

iii.    Have table help and support staff to run the tournament

g.    Costs of tournaments

i.    Costs are paid by host

ii.    $2.00 per wrestlers goes to the region

iii.    District tournament earnings shall go to the region

h.    Region Support

i.    The region will provide flip charts, clocks, ref gear.

ii.    Computer support

i.    Tournament Staff

i.    Tournament manager

ii.    Head referee

1.    Train referees

iii.    Head pairing official

1.    Have final say in all pairing issues.

iv.    Head flow/Announcer

v.    Head security

1.    Monitor coaches and parents on the floor

9.    Regional and State tournaments

a.    Wrestlers are required to wrestle at the district tournament that their club has been assigned to.

b.    All wrestlers are required to wrestle at two IDAWAY events in order to compete at the district tournament. Pre-season, Novice, and Dual Team tournaments count towards this requirement.

c.    The top four wrestlers from each region qualify for the IDAWAY State Tournament. Top 5 for weight groups with over 17 wrestlers.

d.    Only wrestlers that reside in Idaho or are on a team from a bordering state that does not currently have a NUWAY organization are allowed to wrestle in IDAWAY district and state tournaments.

e.    All wrestlers are required to be IDAWAY members to compete in IDAWAY district and national tournaments.

f.    All wrestlers are required to be a NUWAY member to compete in any IDAWAY tournament.

10.    National Team

a.    All IDAWAY members are eligible to be on the National Team and travel to IDAWAY/NUWAY sponsored events.  In many cases the financial burden of travel, entry and housing will be underwritten and sponsored by IDAWAY.  It is our goal to provide all skill and age groups the opportunity to be part of a National Team

b.    IDAWAY will sponsor the IDAWAY state tournament’s top four place winners in each weight to selected national tournaments. The tournaments will be selected by the IDAWAY Executive board and announced each spring.

c.    National Team continued The top 3 placers at the IDAWAY State Tournament will receive singlets.

d.    Only wrestlers that register and compete at the selected national tournaments will receive entry fee reimbursement.

e.    Wrestlers may earn credit toward national teams by refereeing and assisting at season, region, and state tournaments.

11.    Team duel tournaments

a.    Can be any age groups

b.    Club duel teams must all be registered with the same club

c.    Region duel teams must all be members of the same region.

d.    Weight classes for the elementary division (K-6th grade):50-55-60-65-70-75-80-84-88-92-97-108-120-135-Hwt.

e.    Weight classes for the Middle School Division (6th-8th grade)80-85-90-95-101-108-115-122-129-136-143-160-Hwt. (Max 260)

12.    General Information

a.    IDAWAY tournaments will follow the rules contained in the National Federation of State High School Associations Rules book unless otherwise noted.

b.    Wrestlers must compete only in their age group.

c.    Wrestlers can bump up one weight class.

d.    Wrestlers can compete in only one weight class at a tournament.

e.    Overtime will follow the NFHS three stage process.

f.    Hair covers (either attached or unattached) are required when hair length is outside NFHS guidelines.

g.    Wrestlers, parents, and coaches are expected to behave in an appropriate manner at all IDAWAY tournaments, practices, and events. Poor behavior including profanity and abusive language will not be tolerated and violators will be subject to immediate ejection. Repeat offenders may be permanently barred from IDAWAY events.

13.    Executive Board

a.    Rules may be changed or modified by a majority vote of the IDAWAY Executive Board.

b.    In the case of a tie between board members, the IDAWAY president shall vote to break the tie.

c.    The Regional Director term is in for 2 years. Assistant regional director is in for 2 years then becomes regional director.

d.    The new assistant regional director shall be voted on by the member clubs within the region.
